Google has officially expanded its background AI assistant, Gemini Spark, to its native macOS desktop application. The rollout transitions the platform from a conversational chatbot into an active, autonomous agent capable of orchestrating multi-step digital workflows directly on an individual’s computer.

The cornerstone of the macOS integration is local file automation. Rather than requiring users to manually upload materials to a cloud browser, Gemini Spark operates directly within the desktop environment via permissioned “Connected Folders.” Users can delegate tedious administrative operations, such as instructing the agent to scan an unorganized Downloads directory, sort mismatched PDFs into labeled archives, or aggregate financial numbers from locally saved invoices to compile a budget spreadsheet in Google Workspace. To protect user privacy, Google emphasizes that file access remains strictly controlled by the device owner, who can revoke folder links instantly.
