Executive Readout

The next AI conference cycle is concentrated in three arenas.

First, research conferences are becoming governance infrastructure. CVPR opens in Denver on June 3 with explicit compute-reporting and research-integrity processes, while ICML Seoul is already signaling capacity pressure through registration, workshops, tutorials, and invited-talk announcements. These are no longer only technical venues; they are control surfaces for compute disclosure, peer-review security, talent concentration, and frontier-model agenda-setting.

Second, multilateral and standards venues are consolidating around AI for Good. ITU’s July 2026 Summit foregrounds international AI standards, AI infrastructure, skills, policy, robotics, health, food, environmental impact, and Global South capacity. This is the clearest public venue in the current agenda for tracking whether AI governance is being framed as technical standardization, development capacity, infrastructure access, or public-interest deployment.

Third, NeurIPS 2026 is politically notable even before December. Its distributed Sydney/Atlanta/Paris format, sanctions-policy clarification, AI reviewing experiment, reproducibility track, and responsible-AI...
