Meta has appointed CRED founder Kunal Shah as the new global head of WhatsApp while simultaneously investing about $900 million in the fintech company at a valuation of $4.5 billion.
The move is notable not only because of Shah's transition from startup founder to global technology executive, but also because it ties together leadership succession, platform strategy, and investment in one of India's most closely watched fintech companies.
A Founder Steps Onto The Global Stage
Shah will succeed Will Cathcart, who has led WhatsApp since 2019 and will move into a new role within Meta focused on building new products.
