Fitbit Founders Launch a Wristband to Help Families Keep an Eye on Aging Parents
Fitbit's cofounders are launching Luffu, a new startup focused on family health. Its first product is the Luffu Link, a screen-free wristband that helps caregivers monitor aging relatives.
Like modern fitness bands such as Whoop and Google's new Fitbit Air, the Luffu Link looks more like an accessory than a health wearable. But its built-in LTE and GPS let it work without a connected phone, sharing the wearer's location data with trusted family members. The idea is to help families keep an eye on seniors who might wander into unfamiliar, unsafe areas or forget where they are, but people of all ages can use the device.
By pressing a single button on the wearable, users can activate the microphone to quickly log notes on medications, symptoms, meals, mood, and doctor visits. A built-in speaker also lets users receive voice messages directly from the band. The battery lasts up to five...
