FCC Blacklists Foreign Humanoids and Robot Dogs
The FCC has expanded its national-security Covered List to include foreign-made humanoid robots and robot dogs, joining previously restricted Chinese telecom equipment from firms like Huawei and ZTE. New models with cameras, sensors, and network connectivity are covered over surveillance and remote-access concerns, along with foreign-made power inverters, which connect solar, battery, and data-center systems to the grid and carry similar exploitation risks. Robots and inverters already in the U.S. are unaffected, since the restriction applies only to new models seeking FCC authorization.
The FCC didn't name China, but the effect falls almost entirely on Chinese manufacturers, who shipped roughly 90 percent of the world's humanoid robots last year and account for six of the sector's top-selling producers.
