Facebook Marketplace built its brand on used couches and secondhand strollers. In 2026, it is also a working sales channel for US dropshippers.
That is not what Meta designed the platform for. It started as an alternative to Craigslist, a place to sell an old dresser, a bike frame, a coffee table you no longer had space for. Most listings still fit that description. But an accumulating share of the roughly 1.1 billion people who use Marketplace every month are now buying new-in-box products from operators who never touch the inventory, sourcing it from wholesalers who ship direct to the buyer. The lines have blurred quickly.
Two things drove the shift. The first was Amazon.
