We live in an amazing time for DIY electronics, with all kinds of high-quality hardware that is relatively affordable and accessible. But everything comes to a grinding halt if there isn’t an existing IC (integrated circuit) chip to accomplish what you need. It just isn’t feasible to make a custom chip — at least it wasn’t until recently.
