Do we still need consultants? (Spoiler - yes!)
For some time now, some AI prognosticators have been predicting a dire or heavily diminished future for the consulting industry and related businesses. What many have pointed out is that:
- AI tools, especially Generative AI, can parse billions of client and/or third-party documents to identify trends, summarize/categorize content, structure data into more meaningful ways and complete the work in an insanely quick manner.
- Generative AI tools can also build first drafts of consulting presentations, generate research reports, create compelling imagery, etc.
- Algorithmic AI tools can crank through tons of different data stores and the detailed records within them to craft great projections or forecasts on financial, operational, etc. data. Again, these tools can deliver results in record short time.
- Software vendors are using AI to make implementations and other tasks human-free and lower cost.
- Many of the tasks above used to require junior consulting and integrator staff to complete them....
