Walking pads have gained popularity in recent years as people use them to increase their step counts while working from home or when inclement weather prevents outdoor walks. Although they're also known as under-desk treadmills, walking pads aren't the same as your average treadmill, especially since they take up less space and don't typically offer handrails for support and safety.

As CNET's resident fitness expert, I've tested many popular treadmills and was curious to see how walking pads hold up. In particular, I wanted to see how well they helped me maintain my step count while working from home. I was sent two different models to test, and this is my experience putting them through their paces.
