Do Flagship Phones Offer Better Value in 2026?
Once a bit of a splurge, flagship phones are beginning to offer better value than many mid-range models for buyers in 2026. Rising memory and storage costs are pushing phone prices higher across the market, bringing what were once more-affordable phones up to a luxury price point. Under these conditions, some buyers find that they might as well go for the higher-end flagship phone.
The technology market research firm IDC says worldwide average smartphone selling prices will reach a record $550 this year, up $100 from 2025. But in North America, 60% of first-quarter phone shipments were premium models priced over $800. This is thought to be partly because Apple and Samsung offer carrier financing, which allows customers to pay for expensive phones in monthly installments, making the price difference between two models seem even smaller.
