While Microsoft and Nvidia have found success by tying the technology to subscriptions and users' existing libraries, Twitch might have found another sensible use case, starting with Crimson Desert: streaming free playable demos.
Those interested in trying Crimson Desert, one of 2026's most ambitious and popular games, can now play it for free for 20 minutes. However, instead of installing the demo locally, players must stream the game over Twitch.
While 20 minutes might not be enough time to properly sample an open-world title as large as Crimson Desert, cloud streaming lets users try the game without a lengthy download. It also makes the demo available on any device with a web browser (which, ironically, excludes modern game consoles).
