Could Sony Japan's Anti-Scalper Technique Actually Protect the PS5 Pro?
After what happened with Steam Machine and the special-edition Xbox Series X25, Sony has found a new, intuitive way to reduce scalpers' stake. The brand has launched a PS5 Pro order lottery in Japan that requires applicants to prove they have logged at least 60 hours of PS4 or PS5 playtime over the past two years. That doesn't sound like much, but it's a lot of time to sink in for someone trying to make multiple accounts to scoop up consoles.
Though the PS5 Pro has been out for nearly two years, demand in Japan exceeds available stock, with ongoing memory and component shortages making supply especially tight. The impending release of GTA 6 doesn't help matters.
