The seven-year, non-exclusive deal, worth a likely total of around $11.6 billion, will see Akamai work with the frontier model provider to support its accelerating CPU workload demands with distributed AI infrastructure and software. The agreement also has the option to expand out another $9 billion of revenue commitments during its duration, so it’s a mega-deal for both firms.
Of course, that’s going to come at a CapEx cost for Akamai in order to meet its obligations, to the tune of $5.5 billion. The current plan is that approximately $1.7 billion of that will be spent towards the end of this year on pre-purchasing critical supply chain components, including memory, followed by a further $3.1 billion in 2027.
