Corkboards, Beat Sheets, and Reverse Outlines: Choosing the Right Structure for AI Filmmaking
The corkboard method, one scene per index card, physically rearranged until the structure holds, is the outlining method most AI filmmakers should default to, because it’s the only one of the three standard options that lets you catch a structural problem before you’ve paid for it in generations. A beat sheet tells you what has to happen. A reverse outline tells you what you already wrote. Only the corkboard shows you the shape of the whole thing while it still costs nothing to change.
I didn’t learn this from a screenwriting book. I learned it on Lost Garden, after generating a full scene that turned out to be structurally redundant, a beat the story didn’t need, sitting between two scenes that already did its job.
