“Context” Might Be the Most Misunderstood Word in AI Conversations
Every word carries a mental image. When you hear "context," you picture something like the surrounding circumstances - the environment, the conditions that can significantly affect the situation. It is also important who, for what purpose, in what process considers the system and its surrounding circumstances. For different specialists and in different situations, some parameters become important, others unimportant, or vice versa. A fire safety inspector and a sanitation inspector walk into the same restaurant kitchen on the same afternoon. One is quietly cataloguing the placement of fire extinguishers, the condition of the ventilation hood, the clearance around the electrical panel. The other is examining the handwashing station, the food storage temperatures, the cleanliness of the prep surfaces. Neither is wrong about what matters.
