Collabora Releases First 64-bit Arm Arch Linux Packages as it Prepares for Valve's Steam Frame VR
Gaming giant Valve is preparing to launch a virtual reality headset dubbed the Steam Frame, and open source software engineering firm Collabora has been tapped to provide the operating system — with the first build of Holo Core, an Arch Linux port for 64-bit Arm chips, now available for testing.
"Valve uses an adapted version of the Arch Linux distribution in its products," explains Collabora's Denis Pynkin of the company's adoption of Linux-based operating systems to power its popular Steam Deck handheld and upcoming Steam Machine PC-slash-console. "At Collabora we have been working with Valve on Holo Core, a pure aarch64 port of Arch Linux to be used as the basis for the OS running on the Steam Frame, which uses an aarch64 CPU."
