CIO Harry de Voil - from the back of an ambulance to digital leadership
CIOs arrive at the role from a myriad of directions. The popular misconception is that they have a degree in computer science and come up through a career path of writing code. Though the vast majority do rise through the technology ranks, it is often a business-centric route of service and project delivery that leads to the CIO hotseat.
For Harry de Voil, it was a very different hot seat that led him into digital leadership. Harry de Voil trained and worked as a paramedic. Now CIO for Nursing and Allied Health for the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust in the West Midlands of the UK, de Voil is one of the first paramedics to become a nursing-focused CIO.
