ChatGPT Mac Update Adds Apple Messages Plugin for iMessage & SMS

OpenAI has released an update for its ChatGPT desktop app on macOS, introducing a dedicated plugin that integrates directly with Apple’s Messages application. The new capability allows the AI assistant to interact with iMessage, SMS, and RCS conversations directly on the Mac, providing users with context-aware desktop management.

Deep Integration Beyond Standalone Chat

The Apple Messages plugin enables ChatGPT—available across workspace, Codex, and desktop environments—to search chat history, summarize lengthy message threads, pull key details, and draft or send replies.

Rather than serving as an external web service, the feature relies on local macOS automation frameworks, utilizing tools like AppleScript and system Accessibility permissions to interface with the native Messages app.
