Celonis' Chief Scientist - and MIT professor - on why enterprises are reaching for the wrong AI to run the numbers

When Celonis launched its Context Model and announced the acquisition of Ikigai Labs back in May, President Carsten Thoma said that the process intelligence vendor was turning its own platform on its head, positioning itself as the neutral middle layer, the "voice of reason" for buyers worn down by AI noise.

As part of that acquisition, Devavrat Shah, a chaired professor at MIT and founder of Ikigai, joined Celonis as the company’s Chief Scientist, Enterprise AI. His research is in graphical models - a way of modelling the tabular and time-series data that fills enterprises - and it is that technology, the Large Graphical Model (LGM), that Celonis has bolted onto its operational ontology to provide the "what if" scenario modeling it was missing.
