Carry On (autonomous) Cabby (1/2) - saddling up with Pony AI’s Robotaxi
First, a confession - I have never ridden in a driverless car, and aging Luddite that I am, I have no burning desire to do so. But it’s impossible to deny that I’m driving on the wrong side of the road here and there is a significant direction of travel towards more and more autonomous vehicles, even if that does seem to coming more from the sell side than the user side at present.
Two leading proponents of such an autonomous future are China’s Pony AI and, of course, Uber Technologies, and comparison of their respective strategic ambitions and achievements to date make for insightful reading into assessing just how far off the day of the mainstream ‘robo-taxi’ really is.
