CarbonStrong Raises ₹12.5 Crore To Scale Low-Carbon Cement Tech
CarbonStrong, a Bengaluru-based climate-tech startup, is now trying to take that proposition from customer trials to commercial production.
The company has raised ₹12.5 crore in a seed round led by IAN Angel Fund, the evergreen fund of IAN Group. Rainmatter, Social Alpha, Spectrum Impact, and Full Circle Ventures also participated in the round.
The funding will be used to establish CarbonStrong’s first production facility, expand its team, continue product development and testing, and convert customer trials into commercial-scale deployments.
The Challenge Is Reducing Cement Use
Cement sits at the center of modern construction, but its environmental cost has made reducing its use an important part of the industry's decarbonization efforts.
According to the information shared by the company, cement accounts for more than 8% of global CO2 emissions. At the same time, industrial sectors generate hundreds of millions of tonnes of waste, including materials such as fly ash and slag.
