Are AI-generated films banned from film festivals in 2026? Not exactly. What actually happened this year is stranger: the festival world built a second circuit instead of answering the question. Cannes shut generative AI out of its top prize. Weeks later, thousands of AI films screened a few streets away, at a festival most of the trade press barely covered.
