Bulging Ryzen 9 7950X3D Puts AMD's Warranty Policy In The Spotlight
A Ryzen 9 7950X3D failure reported by a Taiwanese user is drawing attention after AMD allegedly denied the warranty claim despite the processor still being within its three-year warranty period at the time of failure. The incident first surfaced on Taiwan's PTT bulletin board system, where the user claimed his system suddenly shut down after an audible popping sound while sitting idle. According to the report, the processor later exhibited visible swelling, or "substrate deformation," while the system also experienced BIOS corruption and other instability issues. The user states that AMD rejected the RMA request, citing physical damage to the processor.
Photos posted by the owner clearly show deformation of the CPU substrate, though the exact cause remains unknown. AMD has not publicly commented on the case, and it is unclear what evidence was reviewed during the warranty evaluation process.
