Britain's NEET crisis is a strategy problem, not an AI problem

I have a heartfelt objection to make. AI is widely blamed for hollowing out entry-level work, and the data gives the charge weight — the UK Government's interim report into young people and work found that entry-level roles have become less plentiful and more demanding, recruitment more remote, automated and less human, and apprenticeship starts for young people are down by more than 40%.

But while AI might be an easy place to point the finger, I believe this case will be mindset over matter.

Too many organizations are still buying the technology the way software was bought a decade ago, as a line item that removes people rather than a capability that makes people more valuable. Pointed at entry-level work, AI will cut it and call the result "efficiency".
