Physical security is undergoing a fundamental transformation. For decades, access to homes and workplaces was largely governed by physical keys, access cards and, more recently, biometric authentication. As buildings and homes become increasingly connected, security is evolving towards a more dynamic model centred on digital identity.

Digital identity brings together authentication methods, access permissions, devices and contextual information to determine who can access a particular space, when access is permitted and under what conditions. This represents a shift from credential-based security towards identity-driven access management.

For organisations, the transition is being accelerated by hybrid work environments, distributed workplaces and the growing need to manage access across multiple facilities.
