Athom Circles Around Smart Home User Interface Design with Its New Homey Portal
Athom, creator of the Homey home automation platform, has announced a new tap-and-twist controller dubbed the Homey Portal — combining a 2.8" color touchscreen display with a steel rotary ring for ease of control.
"We've always wanted a smart home to feel as simple as flipping a light switch," Athom chief executive officer Stefan Witkamp says of the company's design ethos. "Alongside our cloud service and smart home hubs like Homey Pro, Homey Portal is our first built specifically around a screen, giving people a direct, physical way to control their home instead of doing everything through an app."
The face of the Homey Portal is almost entirely screen, a full-color 2.8" capacitive touchscreen panel that opts for a circular, rather than rectangular or square, layout.
