Artemis Truthers Continue the Not-So-Proud Tradition of Space Skepticism
I should have seen this coming: The astronauts from the Artemis lunar flyby mission are under attack from conspiracists who believe that the whole thing was a hoax.
As seen in the Twitter video embedded below, the astronauts have had to endure some in-person harassment—though, to be fair, hostile people can pop up anywhere.
The bigger issue is the rising tide of hoax-minded people online. It's still not the dominant narrative, but hashtags like #fakeNASA and #fakespace have gained real traction. It's common to see accusations that both the images from the exterior of the Orion spacecraft and those from the astronauts' own handheld photography are AI-generated.
