Arduino VENTUNO Q Gives a DIY Instant Camera Local AI Powers
Instant cameras are making a comeback as people long to have physical copies of the pictures they take. Those same people are now rediscovering why we went digital in the first place: every press of the shutter comes at the cost of another piece of film. Jim Bruges found a happy middle ground with a homemade instant camera called Rubber Duck-ify that spits photos out of a cheap thermal receipt printer. It can also run local AI models to edit the photos before they hit the paper, including one that turns people into rubber ducks.
Bruges originally built a thermal printer instant camera more than a decade ago as an inexpensive way to hand out physical photos at parties. After getting his hands on the Arduino VENTUNO Q, he decided to revisit the concept to see what upgrades would be possible using modern technology.
