Apple's New Genius Bar AI Audio Recording Tools Spark Surveillance Fears
Anyone hauling a glitchy iPhone or a sluggish and buggy Mac up to Apple's Genius Bar could soon have company at the counter, in the form of an AI assistant quietly listening in. Apple is reportedly testing a tool built to spare its retail technicians the chore of typing notes mid-appointment, and while that sounds harmless enough, some employees worry it hands management a fresh way to keep tabs on how they work.
The tool goes by Live Notes, and it records a conversation between a Genius Bar worker and a customer before AI turns that audio into a transcript and a short summary. Recording only starts once both people agree to it. From there the summary lands in the repair session record on the employee's work iPad, giving the technician a written account without pausing to jot anything down.
