Apple VP Is Especially Proud the iPhone Duo’s Hinge

Tom Marieb, Apple's VP of hardware engineering, has asked customers to hold the brand accountable for display creases in the iPhone Duo as it ages. Marieb made the comment in an interview with TechRadar while discussing Apple's hinge design and the inner display.

The iPhone Duo uses a matte nano-texture display that Apple says will make the crease less visible over time. Marieb said the finish helps scatter reflections, making changes around the hinge harder to see than on a glossy panel.

"Hold us accountable to that, please," Marieb said when asked if the crease would become more noticeable with extended use. He added that Apple chose the matte finish not only to reduce glare but also because it should be more forgiving if the hinge changes over time.
