Aosu R1 Ultra Video Doorbell review: Free local video storage makes this a smart budget buy, provided you look past the slightly inflated spec sheet
Buying a video doorbell usually comes with a rental agreement to store useful footage in the cloud, but the Aosu R1 Ultra sales pitch is slightly different. Clips land on the included AosuBase Mini with an 8GB capacity and 60 days of loop recording where nothing vital is paywalled. Daylight video is sharp, and AI detection holds up, but there are some caveats. Night vision is infrared only, recharging means unclipping the entire doorbell, and the spec sheet slightly oversells things. For example, 5MP UHD resolution isn’t true UHD, and 166-degree field of view isn’t what you’ll actually see, but if you buy it for what it does, rather than what it claims, this is a capable smart security investment.
