Amit Shah Pushes Tech Upgrade for Urban Cooperative Banks

Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah has called on India's urban cooperative banks (UCBs) to accelerate technology adoption, strengthen transparency and modernize customer services to remain competitive in a rapidly changing banking environment.

Speaking at the inauguration of the new office of the National Urban Cooperative Finance and Development Corporation Limited (NUCFDC) in Mumbai earlier today, Shah said technology, better governance and customer-centric services would be critical to strengthening the sector.

He also urged all urban cooperative banks in the country to become members of NUCFDC within the next year.

According to Shah, nearly 690 of India's roughly 1,400 urban cooperative banks have already joined the organization.

Technology Becomes Central to UCB Modernization

Shah said urban cooperative banks need to introduce technology, improve transparency, train employees and provide modern services if they are to compete effectively.

"Our responsibility is to ensure that all banks become members of this organisation...
