AI Writes 80% of Code Now - Here's Why That's a Different Problem for Fintech

At some of the most AI-native engineering teams in the world, AI now generates more than 80% of production code. Across the broader industry, 85% of developers use AI coding tools daily, and nearly half of all new code committed to global repositories is AI-generated.

Everyone is talking about the speed gains. Fewer people are asking what happens when that AI-generated code ships inside a payment gateway, a loan origination system, or a KYC onboarding flow.

That is a different conversation. And in fintech, it is one that is already overdue. We have written before about the governance frameworks fintech needs for AI agents making decisions in production. This is about the layer underneath that: the code itself, and who is accountable for what it does.
