AI Talent Earns Higher Pay, But Existing Employees Miss Out: Indeed Report
Artificial intelligence (AI) skills are becoming more valuable in India's job market, but the salary gains are largely going to new hires rather than employees already working with AI, according to Indeed's inaugural AI at Work Tracker 2026.
The report found that 66% of employers said they offer salary premiums for AI-skilled roles. Yet, more than half (54%) of employees whose work involves AI said their salaries have either remained the same or declined over the past year. The findings suggest companies are paying more to attract AI talent from outside while many existing employees who have picked up AI skills are yet to see similar rewards.
Among employers surveyed, more than 40% said AI roles command salary premiums of 11% to 30% over non-AI jobs, while another 26% said they pay between 31% and 50% more. But the employee experience tells a different story. Around 36% of AI-exposed...
