AI Salary Premiums Rise as India’s Tech Industry Faces Entry-Level Hiring Pressure: Report
India’s technology workforce is facing a growing divide where companies are struggling to find professionals with advanced artificial intelligence (AI) skills even as routine technology roles face slower salary growth and pressure on entry-level hiring. At the same time, millions of professionals have reportedly undergone upskilling, but only a fraction have advanced AI skills, according to TeamLease Digital’s Digital Skills & Salary Primer FY2026–27 report.
The report, based on an analysis of more than 37,000 technology and digital roles, points to a labour market in which demand and compensation are increasingly concentrated around professionals who can build, integrate, secure and deploy AI systems. It estimates a talent supply gap of 53% in generative AI (GenAI) and 55% to 60% in cloud computing, while around 16% of IT professionals hold AI skills.
