AI-Powered Robot Learns to Run and Jump Just Like a Dog
Dogs do not need to be trained to learn a carefully planned sequence of movements to jump through a narrow opening. They can run toward it, adjust their approach, leap at the right moment, tuck their legs out of the way, and keep running after they land — it all just comes naturally. Researchers are now teaching quadrupedal robots to do much the same thing.
A team from the University of Hong Kong and the Oxford Robotics Institute developed a learning system that allows a four-legged robot to autonomously run and jump through narrow gates. The technique was demonstrated using a 22 kilogram Unitree Aliengo robot and is described in a paper published in Advanced Robotics Research.
