AI Moves Child Safety Beyond Traditional Parental Controls
Children now spend more time on social media, online games and other digital platforms where harmful interactions can develop in real time. That is pushing child safety technology beyond the traditional model of blocking websites, restricting applications and setting screen-time limits.
According to a 2024 study by ChildSafeNet and UNICEF Nepal, titled Safeguarding Futures: Exploring the Impacts of Generative AI on Child Online Protection in Nepal, 68% of surveyed children and young people are aware of generative AI, while 46% actively use it. ChatGPT is the predominant choice, used by up to 65.64% of youth AI users, with educational purposes accounting for 38% of adoption and work productivity for 23%.
