AI makes most appdev management layers redundant, says Unit4's CTO
When a development team at enterprise applications vendor Unit4 took a week using AI to write a new function that would previously have taken them six months, it confirmed something that Claus Jepsen, its Chief Technology Officer, had already suspected. AI, he believes, is completely rewriting the rules of how an organization manages work — which means ripping up the traditional org chart and starting over. He tells me:
The current organization is a problem — the organizational structure, the project managing piece — all these things we put in place to ensure visibility of what's going on, measure what's going on, and forcing something to come out. You could eliminate those and then leave it to the teams themselves to drive the output.
