AI ethics - the reason we can’t discuss a technical solution? Because it’s too boring, according to ‘Trump whisperer’ David Sacks
There was a last minute contribution to this week’s Dreamforce conference from a serious policy big-hitter whose views are likely to be influential in terms of shaping Trump 2.0’s response to the febrile AI ethics and safety debate currently raging.
David Sacks is co-Chair of the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, and known to be something of a ‘Trump whisperer’.
Back in May, he was credited with the last minute postponement of the signing of an Executive Order putting in place a voluntary oversight system. This would have seen AI developers being encouraged to submit their products to Federal review by the likes of the Treasury Department. the National Security Agency, and the White House cyber office before releasing them into the wild.
After the eleventh hour decision not to sign, President Trump announced:
