AI Assistants Should Stop Giving Advice They Never Have to Answer For
Most AI assistants are built to sound useful in the moment.
Ask a question, get a clean answer. Ask for a plan, get a plausible plan. Ask whether to launch, hire, cut scope, change positioning, or keep going, and the assistant will usually produce something that feels thoughtful enough to move you forward.
That is useful. It is also incomplete.
The problem with advice is not that it is wrong. The problem is that most advice never has to face the future.
An AI can recommend a strategy today, sound confident, and then disappear from the consequences. A human can follow the advice, get a bad outcome three weeks later, and the system has learned almost nothing. The assistant was plausible at the moment of generation. That was the whole game.
For many use cases, plausibility is enough. For decisions, it is not.
