AI and the new value equation - from cost reduction to value reclamation

The dominant logic of enterprise AI initiatives is a subtractive one. It’s all about efficiency and productivity, the classic drive to “do more with less”. This was highlighted most recently by an April 2026 report on AI initiatives among global top 2000 enterprises by Altimetrik and HFS Research which found that “only 14% have a documented AI strategy with clear goals. The rest have defaulted to cost reduction, a rationale that requires no vision, no ownership model, and no commitment to what the enterprise is trying to become.”

But subtraction is just part of the story, and we think it may be a relatively small part.
