Chennai-based space-tech startup Agnikul Cosmos has secured ₹200 crore in financial support from the Technology Development Board (TDB), under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), to develop a fully reusable version of its Agnibaan launch vehicle.

The support comes under the Research, Development, and Innovation (RDI) Fund and will be provided through Optionally Convertible Debentures (OCDs). The project aims to take Agnikul's reusable launch technology from Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 4 and above towards TRL-8.

The programme is not simply about developing another launch vehicle. Agnikul wants to move beyond recovering only the first stage and work towards full-system reusability, with an architecture designed for repeatable launches while reducing launch and manufacturing costs.

From Launch To Reuse

Agnikul's proposed reusable architecture combines a lightweight upper stage, precise orbital insertion, and semi-cryogenic liquid propulsion designed for deep throttling and restart capability. These capabilities are critical for a reusable system. Bringing...
