Agent Memory Is an Architecture Decision: From MCP Servers to Stateful Agents
Your coding agent fixes a bug on Monday, notes why the first approach failed, and suggests that same broken approach on Tuesday. What went wrong?
Not the model. The memory layer. And the test that exposes it is more useful than checking whether the agent remembers your name: can a fresh session recover the constraint, and the reason behind it, without pulling in instructions from an unrelated repo?
Passing that test means separating three jobs that often get blurred together: storing information, retrieving it, and deciding whether the agent should use it at all. Memory tools draw those lines in very different places.
Hindsight by Vectorize suits builds where the agent has to reason over prior work, not just look it up. Mem0, Graphiti, Letta, and Cognee sit at other layers of the stack, so treat them as architectural choices rather than drop-in replacements.
