After PM Video Removal, IT Panel Seeks Zuckerberg's Apology

On Monday, the parliamentary scrutiny around Meta intensified following the temporary removal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Facebook video. While the company had earlier described the incident as an error and restored the content, lawmakers indicated that the explanation alone may not be enough.

The latest developments shows that the debate has moved beyond a single moderation incident. It is now centered on how large digital platforms govern automated decision-making and whether current accountability frameworks adequately address mistakes involving official public communication.

From Technical Error to Policy Question

The controversy began after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Facebook video became unavailable for nearly five hours before being restored.

Meta had earlier stated that the content was removed "in error" and later reinstated. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), however, reportedly considered the explanation inadequate and summoned the company's global policy leadership.
