A Vein-Scanning Biometric Door Lock You Can Build Yourself

The promise of biometric security is, in large part, a farce. Many biometric security systems are surprisingly easy to trick or circumvent. Redundant checks and more sophisticated methodologies help, but you probably still shouldn’t trust anything important to, say, a fingerprint reader. But what about palm-scanners that look at the veins in your hands? Sachin Soni at Techiesms says this biometric palm scanner is impossible to hack and you can build it yourself.

Now, I don’t have the expertise to thoroughly evaluate Soni’s claim and the security of the tech involved. And, in fact, I’m certain you could hack this by going around the palm scanner sensor. But the biometric part seems pretty solid.
