A Shockingly Powerful Boost Converter
If you need a boost converter for your electronics project, you can pick one up for a few dollars. But if your project draws a couple of hundred amps, these converters aren't going to cut it. YouTuber Nick Electronics wanted to power a 48 V trolling motor with a 12 V battery, so he had to build a custom boost converter that can deliver up to 200 amps. It uses six interleaved power stages, aluminum-core circuit boards, thick copper bus bars, and a CNC-machined enclosure to handle the kilowatts of power flowing through it.
Rather than asking a single boost stage to carry the full 200 amps, the converter divides the load between six phases. Each handles roughly 33 amps, reducing conduction losses while also spreading heat across more components.
