A Real BBS Running on an 8 KB Casio Calculator
The internet was the first worldwide network connecting computers, but the idea didn't spring up out of nowhere. Before the rise of the internet, smaller networks kept computer users connected. Local bulletin board systems (BBSes) offered news, messaging services, software downloads, and much more to anyone who wanted to dial in. Ian developed a BBS in BASIC for the Casio VX-4 pocket computer from 1991. Thanks to its serial port — and some modern hardware — the VX-4's BBS can be accessed via the public internet.
