A PoV Display That Was Born to Rickroll

If you move a light quickly enough, your eyes can be tricked into seeing it in places where it no longer is. Persistence of vision displays take advantage of this effect by rapidly moving LEDs through space while carefully controlling when each one turns on. With good enough timing, a relatively small number of LEDs can produce a large image or animation.

Redditor Camander321's display does exactly that, spinning four SK9822 LED strips at around 1,500 RPM to produce full-color animations. Those animations naturally include some Rickrolling. A powerful Teensy 4.1 microcontroller development board handles the number crunching needed to keep everything synchronized.

Each of the four LED strips contains 32 LEDs, for 128 LEDs in total. The strips are slightly offset from one another so that each is responsible for every fourth horizontal pixel row. This effectively gives the display 128 addressable rows.
