A nervous Dassault is spending $2bn on AI, in the division dragging it down
Dassault Systèmes is one of Europe’s largest software companies, and it is having an anxious year. Its shares are down about a quarter this year. It pushed out its chairman in February. And investors worry that a new wave of AI could hollow out its main business.
Its answer, announced on Thursday: spend up to $2 billion on a company most people have never heard of.
The French firm has agreed to buy ArisGlobal, a maker of drug-safety and regulatory software. The price is roughly $1.8 billion in cash, plus up to $200 million more tied to future AI revenue. The seller is Nordic Capital, a Swedish private-equity group that has owned it since 2019. The whole sum comes from Dassault’s own cash pile.
