Hasty Cleanup: Modern Asus laptops offer an option designed to maximize battery life by reducing hardware utilization. As one user recently discovered, however, this "Eco mode" feature can also produce unintended consequences, affecting how Windows handles hardware components and the subsequent driver cleanup process.
The Eco mode feature available on Asus gaming laptops can cause Windows to remove the GPU driver installed on the system. A user who owns a ROG Zephyrus G14 laptop discovered the unpleasant issue after spending "months" investigating why the system's discrete GeForce RTX 5070 Ti GPU would suddenly disappear. Fortunately for people who use their laptops to actually play games, this type of issue should be relatively rare under normal operating conditions.
